While waiting for someone to help me rivet the main ribs to the spars, I decided to work a little more on the left fuel tank. I first used a soldering iron to melt the blue vinyl from the first two rows. I then drilled out the first row with a #30 drill and finally with a #19 drill to accept #8 screws. I drilled the same hole twice because it was a loose piece of skin with no back support. I then countersunk the second row to accept AN 426 3-3.5 rivets. Vans doesn't want you dimpling the skin to baffle connection. * Tip- Use a cordless drill with the countersink to do the job. The slower drill is much better for this type of work.
